It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have already been conquered.

This is the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the peak baggers, are what's still available for a squad that has achieved everything.

It needed up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, taking back their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the bowling attack that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batters to possess a record if not afforded the chance.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy getting a chance to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have resulted from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

Whether this recent magnificent innings surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Some will argue the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the test that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this innings was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it's been a challenging time because I feel like my form was missing at all," said Healy.

"However when you take the field, your fighting spirit activate and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, fallen to the young fast bowler in each encounter, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and after that Healy was in motion.

"An opportunity to go out there and lock in a contest with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

By the time she was removed the team needed 66 more at one run per ball - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I am glad we have the confidence to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we are confident we can achieve it."

These statements will be the final thing competing nations at this World Cup want to hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will triumph from any situation has become more firm - this success following win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at a certain moment.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she subsequently stated she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

But while she later admitted those physical issues have delayed plans to retire, this World Cup is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a global event as leader.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
