Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Championship in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a challenging season, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's initial championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court after March of that year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 various competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led observers to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his first professional championship, took control to force a decider.

The opponent saved 4 early-game break points in a close deciding set before the Russian broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the title with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
